The dog steadfastly stayed by its injured owner’s side as they found themselves trapped by the rising tide on Perranporth Beach, Cornwall.
In a dramatic display, footage shows the man being hoisted to safety by a rescue helicopter, leaving his loyal dog stranded on the rocks below.
Despite efforts by the coastguard to return and rescue the animal, they were sadly unable to reach it in time.
A spokesperson from St Agnes Coastguard expressed condolences, stating, “We extend our sympathies to the individual who lost their cherished dog in this incident.”
Witness Bruce Hargrove recounted that the man had been walking his dog along a coastal path on Wednesday when he slipped and fell onto the rocks below.
